Urgent Transplant Liver Biopsy Protocol

Overnight Workflow (7:00 PM - 6:00 AM)

1. Transplant team to make patient NPO and place "IR TRANSPLANT TRANSJUGULAR LIVER BIOPSY" order

2. Transplant team to call IR RN phone line at 43669 to relay the request for an urgent liver biopsy

3. IR RN will receive the call and begin workup, assuming a first-case start transjugular liver biopsy with moderate sedation unless specified otherwise

4. IR RN to notify IR Boardrunner/tech (if they are available) to assign the patient to a room

5. Transplant team to page IR consult pager (4466) at 6:00 AM on morning of the procedure

6. IR consult team receiving 6:00 AM page to complete note and consent and coordinate with IR RN and Boardrunner to ensure timely start

7. If any issues with accommodating as first case, IR consult team to communicate directly with Transplant team to create alternative plan (including possibility to convert to percutaneous biopsy if appropriate)
